Ricardo Azevedo’s studio, Ricardo Azevedo x Partners, founded in 2002 in Santo Tirso, redesigned the Villa Sotogrande, a luxury residence located in Sotogrande, in southern Spain.
With approximately 1,500 square metres (m2) of built area, this “millionaire” home is entirely clad in Tundra Grey Marble from Turkey, giving it a sculptural and contemporary presence. Fully refurbished, the outdoor area was designed to offer the feeling of a private resort, with the swimming pool gaining a new architectural language, defined by clean forms and noble materials.
Every square metre was designed down to the smallest detail in pursuit of maximum elegance.
Its central feature, shaping the surrounding lounge area, is the monumental staircase, culminating in a large circle made of natural stone. At the main entrance, an imposing handcrafted vertical panel immediately stands out, with a verticality that extends into the interior of the villa through double-height spaces enhanced by sculptural lighting pieces.
Establishing a strong visual connection with the circulation area on the upper floor, the living room features a cabinet that extends vertically from the ground floor up to the upper gallery, while the main staircase, based on Portoro Gold Marble, gives rise to a structure clad in walnut wood, complemented by a handcrafted brass handrail.
In the en-suite bedrooms, walnut wood also takes centre stage, accompanying dressing areas with translucent glass doors, while the bathrooms stand out for their rare natural stones, such as Taj Mahal Marble from Brazil, Capuccino Marble, different Travertines sourced from Turkey, and Brazilian Mont Blanc Marble featured in the guest bathroom on the upper floor.
As for the basement, where walnut wood remains a prominent element, the space was designed as a leisure and wellness area, integrating another living room, a games room, gym, Turkish bath and sauna.
Finally, the Portuguese studio led by Ricardo Azevedo transformed the garage of this villa into a true private automotive showroom, combining dark tones with technical lighting to create a dramatic atmosphere. To complement each setting, sculptures, paintings and decorative pieces were added. The exterior gates feature bespoke metal elements crafted with reliefs and intricate details, emerging as contemporary works of art.
