There are places that seem frozen in time. Dirt roads cutting through pine forests, worn stone façades, old industrial chimneys and rows of houses that transport us to another Catalonia — the Catalonia of factory colonies and large rural estates in the interior.
It is precisely in this setting that the historic Colonia Antius, in the Spanish comarca of Bages, has just come onto the market on idealista for 3.5 million euros.
The property, listed for sale by LM Finques, stretches across the municipalities of Callús, Sant Mateu de Bages and Súria and totals more than 11,000 square metres (m2) of built area, divided between former factory buildings, homes and agricultural constructions.
Deals of this kind usually attract the interest of tourism investors, hotel groups or large families looking to transform former industrial complexes into boutique hotels, event venues, corporate retreats or large-scale residential projects.

The complex still preserves the typical structure of the Catalan industrial colonies that flourished between the late 19th century and the early 20th century, when many companies built small self-sufficient communities around factories to house workers and their families.
The listing details that the estate includes around 144 hectares of land and a former factory of approximately 7,500 m2, known as “La Fàbrica”, in addition to nearly two dozen homes and a main manor house of around 1,260 m2.

Seen from above, the ensemble looks more like a small private village than a conventional property.
The history of Bages is deeply linked to this type of colony. The comarca became one of the great industrial hubs of inland Catalonia thanks to textiles, mining and agricultural activity.
Very close to this property, municipalities such as Súria grew in the shadow of the potash mines, while dozens of factories and colonies emerged, taking advantage of the area’s economic dynamism.
Many eventually became abandoned over the decades, although some survived and were converted into residential or heritage spaces.

Antius still retains that isolated and self-sufficient atmosphere so typical of the Catalan colonies.
The images reveal internal streets, stone buildings, former workers’ houses and vast industrial spaces that recall the intense activity that must have been concentrated there for decades. All of this is surrounded by woodland and rural scenery, in an area where the silence is broken only by the wind and the birds.

In Catalonia there are still some restored historic industrial colonies, especially in comarcas such as Berguedà, Bages or Osona, although few appear on the market with this scale.

The listing does not specify any concrete project for the complex, but the scale of the deal leaves practically everything open. Because, more than the purchase of an estate, what is really for sale here is a very recognisable piece of Catalan industrial history.
